  • Additional Visits:  These will be 45-55 minutes (for 2x/day format) or 60-120 minutes (for 1x/day format) to address the goals established at the evaluation which will include:

  • Home Program: The final sessions are devoted to home program development and education with review of handling with parents encouraged to practice.  This ensures continued progress and mastery after intensive is complete.

  • Family Involvement: Parents are encouraged to be present and engaged during sessions as much as possible by asking questions, cheering, holding toys, giving cuddle breaks when needed, and celebrating progress.

What to expect and why intensives:

To summarize it: PROGRESS and HARD WORK!

Intensives are designed on the concepts of neuroplasticity . . . a fancy word meaning changes in the brain.  The more we practice or experience something, the more our brain and therefore our body adapts to those changes.  For example, if you've ever gone snow skiing or learned to ride a bike, the first time you give it a try, your body is shaking and you can barely get a few feet forward.  But after repetition and a few hours, or days, or even weeks, you're comfortable and not thinking about what your body is doing.  Your brain learned to control your body.  That is a simplified version of the concept behind intensives: keep exposing the brain and body to movement for it to learn.  It's exciting! But like anything new, it can be intimidating or even feel scary at first so crying, fussing, and tears may occur.  The brain is capable of learning even in those moments.  With skilled handling, lots of practice, and loving reassurance, we can explore the possibilities together.
